Have you ever heard a song on the radio, on TV, or on a movie and can't get it out of your headall All you know is, "the words go something like this...." If you have the lyrics stuck in your head but have no idea who the band is or what the song title is, there are some great lyric search engines on the Internet that can help you.

While there are a lot of search engines to choose from, only a few have large databases. I put a few search sites to the test, and here is what I found. The following search engines found my test subject, which is a popular, fairly new song by Coldplay.

1. Endless Lyrics. This free Web site allows you to find songs using their free lyric search. You can search for thousands of songs by artist, song title, or song lyrics. Find all genres of music, from thousands of artists and albums.

2. Who Ditty. Here you can search for a tune by lyrics, tags, artist, or even where you heard it. This site is a fabulous choice if you need to find a tune you heard somewhere specific, such as a television commercial or show, a movie, and so on. Once you find the song, you can also download it from the site.

3. Get Lyrical. This site has a large database and lets you search by lyrics, artist, song, or album. Note: Get Lyrical finds an exact match for your lyrics whereas Search Lyrics searches for those words anywhere in a particular song and will return a result even if the words are all not together.

4. Search Lyrics. One of the benefits of this site is that it also has some non-English lyrics. You can translate any of the English lyrics to another language on the lyric pages. Also keep in mind the note from site number three above.

5. LyricsFly. This site also found my test song, but you have to be sure to click on "lyrics" first and then perform a search to get the best results.

The other sites I tried came up with no results, which was surprising since I was looking for a new song from a popular band. Good luck with your search!

Use a pencil and ruler to draw six boxes (three across and two down) on each of the other two pieces of card. Write six of the words to be learnt on each card, one in each box. To play the game, place all the small word cards face down and give one six-word card to each player. Take turns to turn over a small word card and read the word (you will need to read the word yourself at first until your child has learnt them). Each player then checks their card to see whether they have a match. If they do, they keep the word card, placing it over the matching word on their own card. The winner is the first person to cover a row of three words. When you have played the game together a few times, you will find that your child will be able to read the words on their own.

Pelmanism: This is a traditional matching and memory game. You will need a set of small cards, such as index cards, twice as many cards as there are words to learn. Write each word on two cards to make a matching pair. Shuffle them up and spread them out face down. Take turns to turn over any two cards and read the words (at first, you will need to read each word for your child). If the cards match, the player keeps them and has another go. If they don't match, turn them back face down and the other player gets a turn. When all the cards have been matched, the winner is the one with the most matching pairs. Before long, your child will recognise the words easily.

Snap: This game works best when used to revise words which your child has already learnt, as it's faster-paced than the other two games. Small index cards work well for this. Write each word on four cards, so that if the child is learning twelve words, you will end up with a pack of forty-eight cards. Shuffle the pack and share the cards equally between yourself and the child. Take turns to turn over one of your words and read it (you will need to read it to the child at first). Each time a new card is turned over, check whether it matches the one before. If it does, the first person to shout "Snap!" wins all the cards in the pile.

The beauty of these games is that your child will gradually absorb the words without making any apparent effort. This is because they will look at the word while you say it aloud, then they will study the word more closely as they try to find a match for it. You could try making and playing a different game every time your child has new words to learn. With your help, learning to read can be more fun!

It's happened to all of us at one time or another. Either way, wouldn't it be nice to know them with certainty so you can sing them aloudall It's easy to find most lyrics but some require a bit more digging and some sites are much better than others. Just as in searching for anything else there are a few general things to consider before you begin.

I've found two effective ways to find lyrics and dozens of ineffective ways (that I won't disclose here). If you're the pioneer type of individual, just type in the lyrics that you do know -or a portion thereof- into the search engine of your choice. It helps to use "quotation marks" or add the phrase 'song lyrics' to your words to help the search engine. Within seconds you will have a staggering amount of responses to wade through, most of which are of little or no value.

If you're like most folks and you don't mind other people doing some of the trail blazing for you, then I have included a short review of some of the larger sites and what to expect there. Findmeatune.com - This site is not blessed with the largest library, nor the most astute search engine. It does offer a unique feature that is sure to get some people's attention. Basically, if you know the suggested song title is not a proper match for your lyrics you are encouraged to enter the correct information to upgrade the data base. Sort of a 'wikilyrica' tool.

Lyster.com - This site is quite limited in comparison to some of the other more robust sites and it requires a bit more 'digging' than most. Suitable for the most popular tunes but then again, what site isn't?

Lyricfinder.corg - It proclaims that it will settle arguments between you and your friends regarding song lyrics. That's a stretch as it's really just a Google powered redirect site where you are given several topical responses before dissolving into the same unrelated search term laden crap sites that Google searches are so famous for.
